What does it take to make the national budget truly transparent and accountable? How can evidence-based research and citizen engagement help safeguard public funds?

These questions were among those tackled at the Socioeconomic Research Portal for the Philippines’ (SERP-P) 11th Knowledge-Sharing Forum on December 2, held at the Sequoia Hotel Manila Bay in Parañaque City. This event was part of the SERP-P Network’s 25th Anniversary celebration, themed “25 Years of Open Access: Advancing Policy Research for Transparent Governance."

The forum featured evidence-based presentations and an open discussion with representatives from:

1. Congressional Policy and Budget Research Department

2. Senate Economic Planning Office; and

3. WeSolve Foundation

A roundtable discussion on public budget accountability was also held with former COA Commissioner Heidi Mendoza, DepEd Philippines Undersecretary for Strategic Management Dr. Ronald Mendoza, and Asian Institute of Management Professor Emeritus Dr. Edilberto De Jesus. The forum was moderated by former 򽴫ý President Dr. Gilberto Llanto.

򽴫ý President Philip Arnold Tuaño, PhD, and Senior Research Fellow John Paolo Rivera, PhD, also discussed the role of policy research in supporting good governance.

Huge thanks to the 38 partner-institutions, speakers, and our growing community of research and development practitioners for contributing to a rich exchange of insights and strengthening our shared commitment to transparent, evidence-based governance!
