The ý (ý) has called on government to recalibrate its trade policies on the livestock, poultry and dairy (LPD) sector, pointing out the need to wind down industry protection while allocating funds to boost output and competitiveness.
In a study titled “Toward Competitive Livestock, Poultry, and Dairy Industries: A Consolidated Benchmarking Study,” senior research fellow Roehlano Briones and consultant Isabel Espineli said tariffs and import restrictions—particularly on corn—have inflated feed prices and penalized consumers.
“Protection for corn raises the cost of domestically produced feed, and by extension, the cost of livestock and poultry farming,” the state-funded think tank researchers wrote in the report.
