Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, has partnered with De La Salle University (DLSU) to equip students with advanced skills in artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing.

The partnership, under the Alibaba Cloud Academic Empowerment Program (AAEP), aims to address the growing talent shortage in the Philippines’ tech sector.

According to the Philippine Institute of Development Studies, the country faces a significant shortage in AI, machine learning, and cybersecurity talent. In response, the collaboration will provide DLSU students and faculty with access to industry-relevant training, certifications, and hands-on experiences in these key technologies.

“This partnership will provide our students with the tools and experiences needed to excel in these critical fields,” said Shirley Chu, Assistant Dean for External Affairs and Lasallian Mission, DLSU College of Computer Studies.

The initiative kicked off in April with an AI Learning Journey workshop, introducing participants to AI fundamentals and Alibaba Cloud’s services. A follow-up session focusing on practical cloud computing skills is set for June, offering hands-on lab experiences in cloud deployment and infrastructure management.

The initiative also includes online lectures, access to over 250 certification courses, and more than 270 hands-on labs through Alibaba Cloud Academy, which has trained over 500,000 individuals globally.
