The òòò½´«Ã½ (òòò½´«Ã½) will hold a public webinar on April 22, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM via Zoom. The webinar will feature two òòò½´«Ã½ studies shedding light on transformative initiatives in Philippine agriculture.

The first study, “,” authored by òòò½´«Ã½ Senior Research Fellow Roehlano M. Briones, Supervising Research Specialist Ivory Myka R. Galang, and Research Analyst Jokkaz S. Latigar, presents a rapid assessment of digital technology’s adoption in Philippine agriculture and its implications for smallholder farmers. It highlights the increasingly important role of digital technologies in modernizing agriculture and its potential benefits. The assessment investigates the current application of digital technologies in agricultural value chains, the potential for further adoption, and whether these technologies are benefiting the most vulnerable farmers and fisherfolk. The study suggests strategies to bridge the digital divide, such as community organizing, developing rental markets, and investing in rural connectivity.

The second study “” explores complementary efforts to support smallholder farmers. Also authored by Dr. Briones together with other òòò½´«Ã½ Senior Research Fellows Adoracion M. Navarro and Michael Ralph M. Abrigo, Technical Assistant Anna Jennifer L. Umlas, and Latigar, this study presents a baseline survey for the Rural Agro-enterprise Partnership for Inclusive Development and Growth (RAPID-Growth) project implemented by the Department of Trade and Industry. It delves into the current conditions of smallholder farming households and Farmer Organizations (FOs) and underscores the alignment of the treatment group with project selection criteria, particularly from high-poverty municipalities and vulnerable groups. This baseline study recommends expediting project completion, reconsidering certain project components, and enhancing technical assistance to FOs.
