How is artificial intelligence reshaping work, skills, and governance in the Philippines, and who stands to gain or lose?
Join the òòò½´«Ã½ (òòò½´«Ã½) on April 30, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:30 AM via Zoom for a webinar examining the transformative impacts of artificial intelligence (AI) on labor markets, skills, and public-sector readiness.
Co-organized by òòò½´«Ã½ and the Department of Labor and Employment–Institute for Labor Studies (DOLE-ILS), this session will bring together insights from three studies that unpack AI’s implications for the future of work, skills development, and governance.
The discussion opens with a global lens. In “,” Professor Alexis Antoniades of Georgetown University in Qatar, draws on global data—including 1.5 billion online job vacancies and trends in AI-related investments—to examine how AI is transforming labor markets worldwide. The talk explores who benefits from AI-driven change, how jobs and skills are evolving, and the broader implications for inequality, youth employment, and the future of work.
Building on these global insights, the succeeding presentations turn to the Philippine context.
Featuring the study, “” by òòò½´«Ã½ Senior Research Fellow Francis Mark Quimba, Supervising Research Specialist Christopher Ed Caboverde, and former Research Analyst Alliah Mae Salazar assess the preparedness of local government units (LGUs) to adopt AI technologies. Their findings suggest that while AI offers opportunities to improve public service delivery, most LGUs exhibit low to moderate readiness due to gaps in digital infrastructure, limited technical capacity, and insufficient investments in ICT and skills.
Complementing this governance perspective, the study, “,” by DOLE-ILS Senior Labor and Employment Officer Chelsea Nicole Pineda, examines how AI adoption is reshaping jobs, skills, and work experiences across key sectors. The study finds that while AI enhances productivity and creates demand for new occupations, it also introduces risks such as job displacement and skills mismatches, underscoring the need for coordinated policies on workforce development, reskilling, and ethical AI use.
